School Shelter-In-Place

The standoff prompted a number of area schools to issue a shelter-in-place order on Wednesday.

Local police also issued a shelter-in-place order for a one-mile radius in the Route 28 and Bearses Way area of Hyannis, Boston 25 News reported.

As the standoff with the barricaded police suspect played out, Barnstable High School, Barnstable Intermediate School, Hyannis West Elementary School, Enoch Cobb Early Learning Center, Barnstable Community Innovation School and the district's transportation and facilities office were placed into what officials said was a "modified" lockdown.

"No one is permitted into our schools or to exit them, but school operations within the building will continue," officials said.

No threat is directed at any of the schools currently, officials said, noting that updates are expected later in the day.
