Cape Cod Student Brought A Gun And Knife To Football Game, Administrators Say
School officials said the gun wasn't loaded or brandished and the student brought it "to intimidate someone" at the game.
BARNSTABLE, MA — A Barnstable High School student was arrested at the football team's matchup against Bridgewater-Raynham after bringing an unloaded gun and a knife to the field, school officials said.
Barnstable Principal Liz Freedman and Superintendent Sara Ahern sent a letter to parents over the weekend confirming the arrest and sharing a few details, including the student's reported intentions.
"One of our students was arrested on school grounds, outside of the football game, for possession of an unloaded revolver and knife," the letter read.

"The items were found when the individual was searched for contraband. The firearm was not loaded and was not brandished. These items were reported to have been brought to intimidate someone thought to be coming to the area but not to be used."
Officials noted that those attending the game were safe at all times on Friday night.

As for the student, police were notified immediately after the gun and knife were found, and school officials are handling the matter "consistent with our school code of conduct, which details the consequences for such serious infractions."
