Bones Found In Eastham Marsh To Be Tested

Police secured the Fort Hill area in Eastham as a crime scene "out of an abundance of caution," but has since reopened to the public.

EASTHAM, MA — Eastham police confirmed that bones of an unknown origin were found in a marsh area along part of the Cape Cod National Sea Shore.

The bones were first discovered in the Fort Hill area around 11:25 a.m. Tuesday, the Eastham Police Department said adding that it was not immediately clear exactly what type of bones were found.

Police secured the area as a crime scene "out of an abundance of caution," officers said calling in help from State Police Crime Scene Services while they continued their search of the marsh.

The Office of the Medical Examiner was also called to the scene and took custody of the bones for further testing.
