Cape Cod Cop Killer Found Guilty Of Jailhouse Attack

BARNSTABLE, MA — The man convicted of fatally shooting a Yarmouth police officer in 2018 has also been found guilty of a jailhouse attack that left another inmate with his ear partially severed.

Thomas Latanowich, 34, was convicted in Barnstable Superior Court of mayhem and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, the Cape Cod Times reported. Prosecutors said Latanowich slashed another inmate with a razor and partially severed his ear.

The attack happened while Latanowich was awaiting trial for Gannon's murder.

In August, Latanowich was convicted of second-degree murder and additional charges stemming from Gannon's death and the shooting of his K-9 Nero. Latanowich was sentenced to life in prison for the murder charge and 10-15 years for the additional charges.

The latest conviction will add 9-12 years to his prison sentence, to be served on or after the life sentence, the Cape Cod Times reported.
