Cape Cod Elementary School Receives Hoax Threat

A few schools across Massachusetts received threatening calls this week, including Harwich Elementary School. It was deemed "noncredible."

HARWICH, MA — Harwich Elementary School is among several across Massachusetts to receive threatening calls this week, though officials said an investigation found the threat "noncredible."

Monomoy Regional School District officials published a statement on Tuesday afternoon stating that a robocall left a threat to the elementary school.

Emergency procedures were put into place on Tuesday, which included a stay-in-place order.

Officials said Harwich police searched the premises, with support from the State Police, and "found nothing to substantiate the threat."

"As always, we operate with the safety of our students and staff as our primary goal. We have been working closely with public safety and they will continue to have a presence in our schools today," school officials said.

Harwich is one of a few schools to receive similar threats this week.

Tuesday saw suspected swatting calls to schools in Duxbury and Concord, while similar calls were made to high schools in Amesbury, Charlestown, East Boston, North Attleboro, Westfield, and Chelmsford Monday.

The local call comes after a gunman at Michigan State University killed three people and injured five more on Monday night.

The shooting began not long after 8 p.m. Monday on the university's East Lansing campus, officials said. In addition to the three killed, police said at least five people were shot and taken to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, where some had life-threatening injuries, according to police.
