Cape Cod High School Student Injured In Crash

One person faces charges after a recent crash sent three people to the hospital.

WELLFLEET, MA — A high school student and a 60-year-old were involved in a recent car accident that sent multiple people to the hospital.

On Sept. 2, around 5:45 p.m., officials in Wellfleet responded to Route 6 for a car crash.

Officials arrived at the scene to find that Carlos Ibarguen, 60, of Eastham, and Aiden Riggins, 18, of Orleans, were the drivers involved in a head-on collision.

Riggins and the passenger in the car, Samantha Barrio, 18, of Wellfleet, were taken by MedFlight to Boston-area hospitals in what police said were "serious condition."

The passenger in the other vehicle, Robert Erickson, 73, of Eastham, was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with serious injuries. Ibarguen was uninjured.

A preliminary investigation found that Ibarguen crossed over the double-yellow line and struck the other car in the eastbound lane head-on.

Ibarguen is charged with negligent operation of a car, marked lanes violation and operating outside of his license restriction, a charge that is for his failure to wear glasses.

Officials said they've submitted a request to suspend his driver's license to the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
