Human Case Of West Nile Virus Confirmed On Cape Cod
Barnstable officials confirmed that a human case of West Nile Virus was found locally. The local risk level has been moved to "high."
BARNSTABLE, MA — Barnstable officials confirmed a human case of West Nile Virus on Tuesday, a relative rarity in the state.
The Massachusetts Department of Health officially confirmed the case, which raises the local risk level to "high."
Health officials said there were 131 cases of West Nile in Massachusetts between 2014 and 2023. There were six human cases of WNV in 2023, eight human cases in 2022, and eleven human cases of WNV in 2021.

Barnstable health officials said they'll continue to work closely with the MDPH and Cape Cod Mosquito Control.
