The installations are designed to serve as shaded waiting areas for Hyannis Trolley passengers.

News release from Town of Barnstable.
HYANNIS, MA — The Town of Barnstable is excited to announce the installation of two new street parklets on Hyannis Main Street, which will be in place through Labor Day weekend. These parklets are designed to serve as shaded waiting areas for passengers of the Hyannis Trolley, operated by the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (RTA). The Hyannis Trolley runs on a 45-minute loop from Memorial Day to Labor Day, between 10:30 AM and 9:15 PM.
The Hyannis Trolley route begins at the Hyannis Transportation Center, making its way down Main Street, to Sea Street, South Street, and Old Colony Road to service waterfront parking. The trolley then travels up Ocean Street to the Ocean Street Docks and waterfront attractions, before returning to the Transportation Center.

Funded through a MassDOT Shared Streets and Spaces grant, this parklet project aims to promote multi-modal transportation in downtown Hyannis. In addition to serving as trolley pickup areas, the parklets are equipped with bike racks for bicycle storage and benches, offering a shaded place to sit and relax while waiting for the trolley.
These new parklets not only enhance the functionality of Main Street but also contribute to the vibrancy and accessibility of the downtown area, providing both locals and visitors with convenient and comfortable options for transportation and leisure.
