The annual 5K in Orleans is set for Saturday. Here's what it means for traffic, how you can still register and more.

ORLEANS, MA — If you wake up in Orleans this weekend to the sound of many, many footsteps don't worry, someone isn't trying to break into your home.

Instead, it'll be the sound of the annual Santa Stampede, a holiday 5K hosted by the Orleans Chamber of Commerce, scheduled for Saturday.

Race registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with a free kids race set for 9:30 a.m. and the main race beginning at 10 a.m.

Registration is also still open for runners, who can register for $30 online, or on the day of the race for $40. Runners under 18 can sign up for $15.

Orelans police also posted the road alterations for race day.

Beach Road will be closed from 9 to 11 a.m., approximately, or until all runners have finished.

Traffic will be detoured off of Beach Road via Cedar Land Road or Brick Hill Road.

"Be aware, those in the area of Nauset Heights or on Beach Road between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. may be made to wait at certain intersections on Beach Road for an extended period of time until runners can pass their location," police said.

"Please plan accordingly as detail officers will not be able to make many exceptions given the hundreds of runners on the road."
