Support Scholarships for Local Students
Bring your redeemables to the Barnstable Transfer Station

The Barnstable Association for Recreational Shellfishing (BARS) is a 501c3 charitable organization that helps the Town of Barnstable with their quahog propagation program, which benefits all recreational clam shellfishers. BARS volunteers also help teach children and adults how to shellfish at the town’s Learn to Shellfish classes that are held during the summer.
BARS gives scholarships to local college students and graduating Barnstable High School seniors who are studying marine and environmental sciences. We have awarded over $120,000 in scholarships since we were founded in 2003. BARS raises this money primarily by operating the Redemption Shed at the Town’s transfer station in July.
We will be at the Shed every day, mornings and afternoons, that the Transfer Station is open. Don’t throw your redeemable bottles and cans away in your garbage, or put them in the large recycling bins for glass, metal and plastic. Put them to a good use and feel happy about supporting your community by bringing your donations to BARS volunteers at the redemption shed during the month of July.
