Upcoming Kids' Events at Barnstable Libraries

Looking for something other than sun and sand for your kids this summer? Check out the Barnstable area public libraries' summer programming. Most events are free or have a nominal fee; some require registration. 

Here are Patch's top picks:

Digging Tables 
Wear clothes that you can get dirty and come experience these sensory-stimulating tables with shovels, pails and spoons. When and where: At Marstons Mills Pubic Library from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mon., July 15; 3 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday; 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday; 12 p.m. to 4 p.m on Friday.

Star Wars Symposium Learn about the history of Star Wars, join in a trivia contest, play video games, bring your show and tell items and come dressed as a character for the costume contest. Children ages five and up and families are welcome. When and where: At 10 a.m. on Sat., July 13, at the Cotuit Library.
Summer Reading Help Is one of the assigned summer reading books throwing your kid through the wringer? Children in grades 3 through 7 can come get help understanding, completing and reading assignments required through the Barnstable school system. To sign up for this free service, email hysoytaskforce@gmail.com or call 508-258-9111, and list the days, times, names and ages of children involved. When and where: 11 a.m. every Tuesday at the Hyannis Public Library.

Crazy Chemistry Kids can reate polymers, explore states of matter and chemical reactions with Kerrie Capraro of South Shore Top Secret Science. Children ages 7 to 11 are welcome to attend. Space is limited; register at 508-775-2280. When and where: 11:30 a.m. on Wed., July 17 at the Hyannis Public Library.
