Weekend Cape Cod Police, Fire Presence Due To Hazmat Incident
Officials needed to close an area road over the weekend so they could remove and destroy products.
YARMOUTH, MA — A weekend hazmat incident shut down a Cape Cod road and prompted a major response from first responders.
Around 1 p.m. on Sunday, the Yarmouth ambulance was called for a medical response at a home on Ocean Avenue.
The Yarmouth Fire Department and Yarmouth Police responded and, while on the scene, the crew identified "some products that were dangerous in the quantities found."

"We notified the Massachusetts Hazardous Materials Team and the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad as a precaution to remove products from the scene and destroy them," officials said.
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection was also notified and responded.

Although the scene was cleared later that day, police had to close Ocean Avenue between Northeast Drive and Sea Side Village Road. They also clarified at the time that there was no threat to the public.
There were no injuries to responders during the incident.
