Weekend Workshop Details Conservation Options, New Income Tax Credit

A free workshop about conservation options and the new State income tax credit for land conservation at the Cape Wildlife Center, 4011 Main Street, is set for Saturday, Nov. 16.

The meeting for landowners and the general public, which is presented by the Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, Barnstable Land Trust, Orenda Wildlife Land Trust and the Town of Barnstable, is scheduled for 10 to 11:30 a.m.

A brief explanation of the new state income tax credit is as follows:

"If you are an eligible landowner, your State income tax could be eliminated for the year, and the State would issue a check for the difference between the amount of that tax and $50,000, or 50% of the land’s appraised value, whichever is less. This tax incentive makes it easier for modest-income landowners with high value lands to get more tax benefit."
