Falling on the last Monday of May each year, Memorial Day honors those who lost their lives while serving in the military. It's a federal holiday that many people get off from work, resulting in a three-day weekend.

This year, Memorial Day falls on May 27, and for many, this holiday weekend marks the unofficial start of summer. Where: Cape Cod Beer, 1336 Phinneys Ln., Hyannis, MA 02601
What: Kick off your weekend with some free live music at Cape Cod Beer. New England singer-songwriter Chris LeBeau will perform for the crowd while you sip your favorite craft beer.

Saturday Story Time

When: Saturday, May 25 - 1:00 p.m.
Where: Barnes & Noble, Cape Cod Mall, 769 Iyannough Rd., Hyannis, MA 02601
What: Pack up your kid and head to the Barnes and Noble bookstore in the Cape Cod Mall for a storytime session. Immerse your child in a world only a storybook can dream up to give them a mental adventure.

Nikki & The Barn Boys!

When: Saturday, May 25 - 7:00-10:00 p.m.
Where: Cape Cod Beer, 1336 Phinney's Ln., Hyannis, MA 02601
What: Kick off the summer with Nikki & The Barn Boys at the beer garden! Enjoy a lively evening filled with great music, dancing and a selection of craft beer, wine, cider, cocktails and soda. Annual Troops In The Spotlight

When: Sunday, May 26 - 11:30 a.m.
Where: Capetown Plaza, Route 132, Hyannis, MA 02601
What: Dubbed the “largest Memorial Day Weekend event in New England,” the Troops In The Spotlight ceremony begins promptly at 11:30 a.m. This event is dedicated to honoring and supporting our fallen heroes and their Gold Star families, as well as showing appreciation for deployed troops, veterans and wounded warriors.
