Another Senator Kennedy in the Cards?

Congressman Joe Kennedy III dropped a hint this week.

Massachusetts might soon see another Kennedy vying for the Senate, but there's a big "if."

While recording her weekly "On the Record" segment, WCVB's Janet Wu got the scoop: If sitting Sen. Elizabeth Warren gets tapped for Vice President, current Congressman Joe Kennedy III told Wu he'd consider running for the senator's vacated seat.

That, of course, boils down to whether Warren would indeed be selected, not to mention agree to, such a position. Multiple reports say Hillary Clinton's camp is indeed vetting her for the post, and Democrats polled have smiled on Warren so far. However, critics aren't convinced, and there's a compelling case to be made that a VP pick matters even less than usual when taking on a polarizing, low-polling competitor such as Donald Trump. That line of argument asks, why ruffle feathers with a firebrand like Warren in an election year that a majority of credible polls suggest is Democrats' for the taking?

Kennedy's political ascendancy, meanwhile, has long been the stuff of speculation. He picked up former Congressman Barney Frank's seat when the congressman retired in 2012. His Fourth Congressional District includes Foxborough, Attleboro, Seekonk, Fall River and more.
