Former State Budget Chief Could Run Against Charlie Baker: Report

Massachusetts' Republican governor may see a challenge from the Needham Democrat.

A Needham Democrat and former state budget chief under Deval Patrick is reportedly considering on a quest to unseat highly popular Republican Gov. Charlie Baker, The Boston Globe reports.

According to the paper, which broke the news Wednesday, Jay Gonzalez has left his post as chief exec at CeltiCare Health and is “seriously exploring” a 2018 gubernatorial bid.

“I get the sense from all the conversations I’ve had with him that he’s in,” one source told the Globe, while another said they'd “bet heavily” on a Gonzalez '18 run.
