Are you looking for something to compliment your turkey and stuffing on Thanksgiving besides cranberry sauce? Try the following recipe for apple compote, submitted by Dana Strayton, owner of Carriage House Cafe and Bakery:
This compote is both sweet and savory. It is a nice side for Turkey along side home-made cranberry sauce. I have also used it as a relish with pork tenderloin.

Ingredients:Â
- 1 large apple, any kind of firm apple will do
- 1 small red onion
- 1 T butter

Cooking Instructions:
- Slice the onions as thin as you can, Core, but don’t peel the apple. Chop it into a small dice- about 1/4 inch.
- In a medium saute pan add the butter- when it starts to bubble add the onions.Â
- Cook on medium for about 3-4 minutes until limp. Add the apples, cook for a couple minutes until the apples start to caramelize a bit.Â
- Will keep for several days in the fridge.Â
