Bedford Police Complete Third Season of Police-Recreation Basketball League

BEDFORD, MA - The Bedford Police Department has successfully completed the third season of the Police-Recreation Basketball League, a program organized and coached by the Bedford Police Department featuring Bedford residents and young people, Chief Robert Bongiorno recently announced.

The Police-Recreation Basketball League is open to high school students in the Town of Bedford who are not members of the Bedford High School basketball team. The league is led by Bedford Police officers and staff, who volunteer their time to coach and mentor the players.

This year, approximately 60 students participated in the league, resulting in six different teams. The end of the season, which runs from January to March, concludes with playoffs and a police vs. high school seniors game.

The police won this year's final game, 67-39.

"This year's Police-Recreation Basketball League was highly successful due to the large number of participants and dedication of our officers to their teams," Bongiorno said. "It allows the police officers to shed their uniforms and connect with students on a deep, personal, and fun level."

The Police-Recreation Basketball League is the result of a partnership between the Bedford Police Department and the Department of Recreation, who is responsible for coordinating the program with the town's residents.

"It is our privilege to work with the Bedford Police Department to create the Police-Recreation Basketball League," said Youth Program Coordinator Nikki Taylor. "We are pleased with the program's success over the past three years and look forward to facilitating more seasons."
