Welcome to "5 Things You Need to Know Today," a new Patch column where we give the readers essential information at a glance. Check back later for more, and let us know what you think of the new feature in the comments.
1. Wednesday Morning Walks: Weeks Meadow. Sponsored by the Habitat, located at 10 Juniper Rd. (off of Somerset Street) on Belmont Hill from 8 am to 9:15 am. Come with Roger Wrubel, director of Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary, on their free weekly walks. For more information, contact the Habitat at: habitat@massaudubon.org
2. The Children's Room of the Belmont Public Library, 336 Concord Ave., is holding Book Babies where infants and toddlers under 24 months are welcome to share simple stories, songs and puppets. From 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

3. "An Urban Wild: A Photographic Exploration of the Silver Maple Forest and the Alewife Reservation" by Parrish Dobson is opening today at the Mass Audubon's Habitat, 10 Juniper Rd. Exhibition hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.
Parrish Dobson has been photographing landscape in New England, Europe, and parts of the American West for over 25 years. She lives in Belmont and teaches photography at the Buckingham Browne and Nichols School in Cambridge.

4. Attention freshmen high school and eighth grade middle school students. A National History Day Workshop will take place at Belmont Public Library, 336 Concord Ave, between 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.
5. The Brain Imaging Center at McLean Hospital is currently conducting an MRI study of adolescent brain development. They are in the final stages of subject recruitment and are aiming to recruit and scan six healthy adolescent girls between the ages of 12 and 14 years old over four weeks. If you and your teenage daughter (healthy, aged 12-14 years old) are interested in participating in this research study, please contact my Research Assistants David Crowley or Michael Covell, at mcleanmri@mclean.harvard.edu, or via phone at 617-855-2880. They will be able to answer any questions you have about the study and will be able to determine whether or not your child is eligible for study participation.
