5 Things You Need to Know Today: Columbus Day Holiday
Belmont Serves, Canadian Thanksgiving, trash pickup pushed back a day.

1. Happy 520th. Today's the Columbus Day Holiday celebrating the anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the Americas, which occurred on Oct. 12, 1492.
2. Hey, don't put your trash out on the street; it's a holiday. Monday pick up will be tomorrow, Tuesday.
3. Belmont Serves is today: For those participating, head over to St. Joe's parish hall at Common and Orchard streets by 8 a.m.-ish. Or fill up the shopping bag left at your door with food and other personal products to be picked up.

4. Belmont High School's Girls' Soccer team will have a rare morning game, taking on Burlington High School at 10 a.m. at Harris Field at Belmont High School.
5. As all you Canucks know, it's Thanksgiving in Canada. So, let's first move the chesterfield so we have room then put on the tuque and bunny hug and go out and get a 2-4 of Canadians, eh? And don't forget to get double-doubles for everyone. Then we'll have our own sugaring off with turkey and maple syrup. Beauty!
