5 Things You Need To Know Today: Feb. 10

Welcome to "Five Things you Need to Know Today," a new Patch column where we give the readers essential information at a glance. Check back later for more, and let us know what you think of the new feature in the comments. 

1. The Belmont Public Schools Music Department presents its annual Jazz Night concert at 7 p.m. at the Chenery Middle School auditorium, 95 Washington St.

Jazz Night will feature performances by the Belmont High School Jazz Ensemble and the Chenery Middle School Jazz Ensemble. Joining the bands will be special guest artist Dave Pietro (www.davepietro.com). Pietro is a highly sough-after jazz saxophonist who has performed with the bands of Woody Herman, Lionel Hampton, Ray Charles and Harry Connick, among others.

2. Join the for fiction, food and fun. Please stop by the Children's Room or call 617-993-2880. The group meets from 3:45 p.m. through 4:30 p.m. at the , 336 Concord Ave.

3. Belmont Against Racism, which meets from 7:30  p.m. to 9 p.m. at the , 336 Concord Ave,  promotes dialogue, awareness, and understanding about prejudice and celebrates diversity in Belmont. Meetings are open to the public.

4. It was so successful at on Tuesday mornings that it’s expanding to Thursday evening. Yoga, taught by professional instructors, is being held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the , 582 Pleasant St, in Gardiner Hall at the back of the church. $10. All levels welcome just bring your own mat if you can. $6 per child for child care. All proceeds benefit Plymouth Nursery School.

5. Spring must be closing in: the Belmont Farmers' Market group meeting is being held beginning at 7 p.m. at the , 336 Concord Ave.
