Belmont Cultural Council Seeks Funding Proposals

Nearly $3,800 available to sponsor events and performances in Belmont; deadline Oct. 15.

The Belmont Cultural Council is actively seeking organizations, schools and individuals to apply for state-funded grants to support arts, humanities, and science projects, performances and events in our town.

According to Council spokeswoman Juliet Jenkins, these grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities in Belmont, including exhibits, festivals, short-term artist residencies or performances in schools, workshops and lectures.

The Belmont Cultural Council will distribute about $3,800 in grants in 2010.

The mail postmark deadline for grant proposals is Oct. 15.

The Belmont Cultural Council cannot fund proposals from schools and youth groups through the PASS Program, which provides subsidies for school-age children to attend cultural field trips.

  • Belmont Dramatic Club Inc: Light Dramatic Entertainment at the Beech Street Center
  • Richard Clark: Theater performance as Clarence Darrow at the Beech Street Center
  • Adrienne Der Marderosian: Collage Exhibition at the Belmont Public Library
  • Yetti Frenkel: Creative Writing and Illustration Workshop for Children, Belmont Library
  • Powers Music School: Community Outreach Performances
  • Record Players & Judith K. Record Conservation Fund: The Record Players Concert X
  • John Root: Songbirds of the Northeast
  • Waldorf High School of Massachusetts Bay, Inc.: Wildlife Conservation Program
  • Watertown and Belmont Open Studios Committee: Watertown & Belmont 1st Annual Open Studios

The Belmont Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 local cultural councils serving all 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts. The LCC Program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences and humanities every year.

The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community.
