Belmont Fire Log: Another Toddler Locked In a Nice Car

Incidents and emergencies handled by the Belmont Fire Department.

You're too old

June 17 – Between 11 a.m. and noon, Belmont Fire crews were sent to homes on Pleasant Street and Livermore Road after the carbon dioxide detectors began sounding their warning. In both cases, air readings registered no leaking natural gas. Each owner was advised to replace the alarms due to the device's advanced age.

June 18 – A quarter past 7 a.m., the entire Belmont Fire Department on duty was sent off to a nursing home and rehab center on Agassiz Avenue after fire dispatch received information that alarms were going off in the building. Engine 1 and Rescue 1 investigated and reported that a building representative said the alarms were sounding on the second floor. There was no smoke or fire throughout the structure. Looking at the alarm system, there appeared to be a faulty detector that would go back and forth from an alarm to everything being normal. The building representative was told to contact the alarm company and his supervisor and to have them respond to the scene.

Toddler needing rescue

June 18 – Just before 6 p.m., Engine 1 took a short trip across Trapelo Road for a person who locked themselves out of their silver Audi. Oh, they also left their toddler seating in the back seat of the locked car. Firefighters forced their way into the car to free the child.

Water everywhere but ...

June 19 – A few minutes after noon, crews came to a location on Concord Avenue near the Underwood Pool – which is open for the season – for a trash can smoldering.

Praise the Lord and pass the ladder

June 20 – Just about a quarter 'til 2 p.m., Engine 2 and Ladder 1 were sent to a church on Pleasant Street to help a parishioner who was stuck in the elevator. A church employee informed the Ladder's crew the elevator company was notified and was on scene. The elevator company shut down power to the elevator, opened the door and the trapped parishioner was able to come out on his own. The person said that stated that he was feeling well and had no complaints, Thank the Lord.

Food fire

June 21 – At half past 9 p.m., Engine 1 and 2, the Ladder truck and others were sent to a large apartment complex on Trapelo Road for fire alarms going off. Engine 1's crew got inside and went to the apartment where the alarm was coming from. There they discovered that someone forgot about their late night meal as the firefighters found unattended food being cooked. The area was ventilated and the alarm system was reset.
