Belmont High's Musicians Earn District Honors

Fifty-three Belmont High School students were accepted this week to participate in the Massachusetts Music Educators Association 2011 Northeastern District Music Festival to be held later this year, according to the High School's Department of Fine and Performing Arts. 

Fifty schools sent 999 students from grades 10-12 to the regional auditions held Saturday, Nov. 20 at Peabody High School with only 420  accepted. And of those selected, Belmont High musicians represents 13 percent  of all participating musicians accepted to the festival. No other school placed as many students into the festival. 

Thirty-four of the accepted Belmont students received MMEA All-State recommendations, affording them an opportunity to audition for the MMEA All-State Music Festival which will be held in March 2011.  

The Fine and Performing Arts also acknowledged the teachers, Arto Asadoorian, Sean Landers and Margot Reavey, for their work preparing the students for their auditions.
