Belmont Participating in Walk/Ride Day This Friday
Town joins 50 others in last-Friday-of-the-month challenge.
This Friday, June 28, is Walk/Ride Day in Greater Boston, the day when "non-green" commuters join the Green Streets Initiative – an organization that promotes sustainable, active transportation in the Greater Boston area – in making the switch to going green by walking, biking, using public transit to head to work or just meet their daily traveling needs.
And doing so is as easy as "clicking" in online.
And this year, the Town of Belmont is competing with 50 or more workplaces – competitors also include many of the Boston area's major universities, hospitals and non-profits – in a Corporate Challenge to see how many of their staff they can get involved in this once-a-month movement to change commuting habits.

Most say that they always wanted to but just did not get around to it. Many want more exercise and see their commute as an opportunity to do so. A lot of people say that they did not realize that public transportation was an option until they tried it.
Approximatley 15 percent of those who check-in online report actually making a switch that day to greener, healthier choices.
