Belmont's Farmers Market 'Rings In' New Season Today
The 8th season for the all-volunteer organization.
They will be ringing the ceremonial "market bell" today at 2 p.m. as the Belmont Farmers Market will reopen for its eighth season.
With the traditional brass fanfare from Nathaniel and Leah (and possibly Benjamin) Meyer – followed by a brass quintet composed of the Meyers and David Schwartz – Dan Tanabat, owner of the Thai restaurant Patou Thai, will cut the ribbon and ring the bell to start the season.
Tanabat shops at the Market for the restaurant, hosts our annual Market dinner at the end of the season and brings out hot tea for vendors and volunteers on chilly fall days.

The all-volunteer organization – named a 2009 Best of Boston winner by Boston Magazine – features local fresh produce, cheeses, meats, fish, wine, baked goods, preserves, pasta, dips and teas.
This year the Farmers Market is partnering with the Belmont Public Library to host "Storytime at the Market" for children from two to five years old. Listen to a new story every week at 3:15 p.m. in the Market's event tent. Belmont children's librarians will be special guests once each month: June 13, July 1, August 8, Sept. 12 and Oct. 10.
And in a new collaboration, the Beth El Temple Center on Concord Avenue has generously allowed the Food Collaborative to plant vegetables for the Belmont Food Pantry on their property. Four-raised beds will be planted and tended entirely by volunteers. If you'd like to help grow food for our neighbors who use the Pantry, contact the market.
The Market is a project of the Belmont Food Collaborative, Inc. whose goal is to sponsor education about food and nutrition, and to help provide families in need with fresh produce
The Market accepts SNAP benefits (formerly food stamps), which are processed quickly and easily. Please let your friends and neighbors know about this service so that the community can better be served.
