Belmont Walks: Along The Mircoburst
Traveling along the route of June's wind storm to find heat is taking a bigger toll.
This is the second of a series on walks through Belmont neighborhoods.
It was one of the hardest hit neighborhoods by the strong wind and rain microburst that hammered Belmont six week ago. Trees were uprooted and branches became flying debris damaging houses and vehicles. At the time, many wondered how long it would take for the neighborhood to return to normal.
This Belmont Walks begins at the Chenery Middle School travels through part of the presidential streets going down Lincoln Street to Bow Street onto Chenery Terrace, up Goden Street on Cedar Road and on Common Street back to the Middle School.

There still remains scars along the way – new soil along Goden Street reveal where some of the 50 mature trees in town that toppled that day – and a few homes still have some minor structural damage.
But on this summer day, the most damage is from the heat wave that has taken its toll on the dried out gardens and burnt lawns.

The walk showcased a variety of house styles – stucco, brick homes inspired by 19th century European design, 1950s styled two story family homes – and just as many landscaping styles from English garden, standard suburban annuals and do-it-yourselfs.
