Belmont Week in Review: Harris Field at Special Town Meeting, New Eatery Ready to Receive Liquor License

A summery of the week's events in Belmont.

Paying for a new replacement Turf Field at the 11-year-old Harris Field at Belmont High School will come from an existing line of credit that is suppose to end in 2015, if a Special Town Meeting approves the project.

Belmont's new Mexican Restaurant, El Centro 'Tres', will likely receive the third of the town's eight full liquor licenses at the next meeting of the Belmont Board of Selectmen. 

The first ever Dan Scharfman 5K Run gets a new race date, Sunday, Nov. 17, and course, all to support technology innovation in the upper grades. 

Belmont schools open on the same day as the first day of the Jewish High Holy Day of Rosh Hashanah; the district will limit quizzes and has issued a no homework policy for the opening three days of school.

Supporters of the historic Thomas Clark House said they are putting together a new public/private partnership to save the 1760-era structure. They said more information is coming after Labor Day.

The Belmont Community Preservation Committee is accepting applications for projects that will help preservation, recreation and affordable housing in town. But the due date to submit paperwork is Sept. 9. 

A lower than average per pupil expenditure and higher than average class size dragged Belmont School District ranking in Boston Magazine's Annual 'Best Schools" issue to 23rd of 148 communities in the Boston region.

Meet Belmont brought a large crowd to the Chenery Middle School to discover what their hometown has to offer.
