Fire Log: Hidden T-Shirts Leads To Arson Scare
Incidents and medical emergencies handled by the Belmont Fire Department.
Daughter has some explaining to do
Aug. 29 – At 9:17 a.m., fire units arrived to Leonard Street with the Belmont Police. The homeowner said he found burnt wood behind his bushes at the base of his foundation and also said there were three T-shirts bunched up in a separate area approximately 10 feet away from the burnt wood. The homeowner brought the investigating companies to each area in question and the clothes was inspected. After several minutes on scene, the homeowner's daughter admitted placing these items in the bushes without malicious intent in order to hide them from her parents.

Aug. 30 – At 4:09 a.m., Engine 2, Ladder 1 and C3 were dispatched to Concord Avenue investigate the fire alarm system activation. While the residence was unoccupied, a fire alarm company of a key in a hidden location informed the commanding officer at the scene. Fire personnel were able to gain entry and the incident was determined to be a faulty smoke detector as there was no smoke or fire noted throughout the structure.

Aug. 30 – At 5:11 p.m., units were dispatched to the corner of Maple Street and Trapelo Road. The incident was determined to be a gas leak. It was determined that Cedrone Construction Company had severed a four-inch natural gas line while excavating a trench for a water line. They temporarily plugged the gas line with rags prior to the Fire Department's arrival. National Grid was notified to respond and fire crews monitored the area and adjacent buildings for gas readings. Fire Department personnel retreated when National Grids crew arrived.
Cooking at McLean
Aug. 31 – At 1:53 p.m., fire department units were sent to McLean Hospital were they found a cooking fire that was confined to the container.
Cookout call out
Aug. 31 – At 8:20 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a Washington Street address because of a report of smoke from behind a house. It was determined that the smoke came from a cookout on Hurd Road.
Route 2 trailer file
Sept. 1 – At 3:04 p.m., Engine 1, Ladder 1 and C-3 responded for a reported truck fire located on Route 2. On arrival Ladder 1 found a tractor unit of a tractor trailer fully engulfed in flames. The vehicle was on the westbound side of Route 2 and Arlington Fire was on scene. Engine 1 established a water supply, provided a feeder line to an Arlington engine and used a hose line to extinguish a grass fire that started from the vehicle fire. Ladder 1 assisted in getting the containing run off contaminated from diesel fuel.
Friendly fire
Sept. 1 – At 6:56 p.m., Engine 2 and C-3 responded to a Richmond Road residence for a report of smoke in the area. Engine 2 investigated and found a friendly fire in the rear of the house.
