Incidents handled by the Belmont Fire Department in the past week.

Outage Threatens Resident
Sept.12 – At 7:08 a.m., units were dispatched for a medical emergency. There was a power outage in the area. The resident's home oxygen system was not working because of the power outage. Companies assisted the resident by swapping her over to her reserve tank that she had in her home. The patient was instructed to call back if she needed assistance switching back to her normal system.
Natural gas leaking

Sept.14 – At 9:58 a.m. Engine 2, Ladder 1, and C3 were dispatched to an Alexander Avenue residence to investigate the reported outside odor of natural gas. A faint, intermittent odor of natural gas was detected in the outside air in front of the house. Normal readings were displayed by equipment that determines CO levels for both outside and inside of the building. The incident was determined to be an outside gas leak. A Key Span supervisor arrived at the scene a short time later.
Locked up but good

Sept. 15 – At 11:48 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to the second floor of a Beech Street house for a person who locked themselves out of their dwelling. Entry by fire personnel was gained into the apartment by removing the exposed pin hinges on the front door. There was no damage done to the home and the door was placed back on correctly. The occupant was also advised to tell the landlord about the broken smoke detector in the front hallway.
Second call for gas
Sept. 17 – At 8:25 p.m., fire units were dispatched to the corner of Clifton and Prospect streets for a reported odor of natural gas outside. On arrival a slight odor was detected. An attempt to check area dwellings was unsuccessful –occupants not at home. Area had markings and test holes from the gas company. National Grid was notified.
