Fire Log: Seniors Trapped In Elevator Rescued

Arc of Electricity Hits Tree

July 11 – At 1:26 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to Edgemoor Road for a reported fire in the tree. On arrival it was found that a primary electrical supply line was arcing against a tree, but there was no fire found. Belmont Municipal Light Department personnel were requested and responded to the scene.

Dust Up Sets Off Alarm

July 12 – At 8:23 a.m., units were dispatched to McLean Hospital's de Marneffe Building on Mill Street. When they arrived, it was determined that a smoke detector was activated unintentionally in a second floor stairwell due to dust being kicked up by workmen.

Locked Out On Benton

July 12 – At 1:37 p.m., an engine was dispatched to Benton Road to help a resident who locked themselves out of their car. The Engine 1 crew gained entry to a silver Honda Pilot using the "Big Easy" kit on the driver's door. No damage was done.

Ceiling Work Alerts BFD

July 14 – At 2:40 p.m., fire department units were dispatched to the Chenery Middle School on Washington Street. During its investigation, Engine 1 confirmed a smoke detector activation on the first floor hallway at the A/D corner of the building. A custodian painting ceiling tiles set off the detector.

Duty Out Of Town 

July 14 – At 8:23 p.m., unit C6 was dispatched out of town to Lundquist Street in Braintree, Mass. to identify and analyze hazardous materials at a chemical hazard.

Trapped Seniors In Stalled Elevator

July 17 – At 2:30 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a multifamily dwelling on Hill Road in the Hill Estate development to rescue two elderly women from a stalled elevator. The elevator was shut down and the doors had to be forced open. The victims walked out with the Fire Department assistance. Hill Estate representatives were notified as well as the elevator company. Caution tape was secured to the out of service elevator.
