Fire Log: Warmed Over Glove On The Menu

Possible Gas Leak On Belmont

July 19 – At 1:08 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a location on Belmont Street for a reported outside odor of natural gas. On arrival a slight intermittent odor detected. Engine 1 checked interior of area businesses and found no odors. A request was made to notify National Grid.

Natural Gas On Watson

July 20 – At 10:21 p.m., Engine 2 and C3 were dispatched to Washington Street and Watson Road to investigate the outside odor of natural gas.  The incident was determined to be a HazMat release investigation with a moderate odor in front of a house on Watson Road the source of the odor was unknown. National Grid requested to the scene by command.

Arcing From A Pole

July 21 – At 10:17 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a parking area on Concord Avenue. The incident was determined to be arcing shorted electrical equipment. Engine 2 wet down an area of brush that was smoldering after an electrical cut out burnt out on the pole above. Belmont Municipal Light Department responded and repaired the wiring problem.

Glove On The Menu

July 21 – At 1:36 p.m., units were dispatched to the Dunkin Donuts on Church Street for a cooking fire that was confined to a container.  The workers at Dunkin Donuts had left a rubber glove in the oven.  The burnt glove caused a smoke detector to activate.

Intersection Manhole on Fire

July 21 – At 8:20 p.m., fire department personnel were dispatched to the intersection of Belmont and Common streets. The incident was determined to be an arcing from electrical equipment that had caused a manhole fire. BMLD responded to repair the wiring problem.

Water On All Floors

July 23 – At 12:24 p.m., units were dispatched to a business office at Brighton Street. On arrival Engine 2 investigated and found a water leak on the third floor that extended into the smoke detector on the second floor. A hallway light was also compromised so BMLD requested and responded. Building representative on scene and informed us that the electrician and an alarm technician were en route.

Smoke From Next Door

July 24 – At 6:21 p.m., Engine 1 and C3 were dispatched to Drew Road to investigate a report of an outside odor of smoke. Upon arrival, the incident was determined to be smoke coming from an outside grill at a neighboring home.
