Fire, Police Face Off To Support A Family's Fight
Fire Dept. steamroll Police, 10-2, in second annual Dalton Cup clash, but real winner is the Burke family and their medical foundation.
Sundays clash between the and on the frozen surface of "Skip" Viglirolo rink could not be for a more prestigious prize. The winner on the ice of this second annual fundraising event would be in possession of the coveted Dalton Cup, Belmont's symbol of ice hockey superiority among the public safety community.
And while the Fire Department took care of the Police – 10-2 – in the same quick and efficient manner they put out fires, the true winner of the afternoon's tussle is a Belmont family that decided to find answers for others that have eluded them.
Hear from Paul Burke and those who put on the fundraiser on the video on this web page.

The Burkes live on Livermore Road. The family's three daughters are living with an extremely rare genetic syndrome, Sanfilippo Syndrome Type C, an illness affecting less than 100 children in the world. The illness causes memory loss, difficulty in speech and movement. The odds that three children in one community would have this illness is beyond astronomical.
There is no cure for the disease currently but research is underway in Canada and a possible drug therapy treatment is being explored by San Diego-based Zacharon Pharacueticals.

The Burkes are raising money for their own nonprofit research foundation so that people who suffer from this illness in the future can benefit from work in discovering a cure or therapy that might elude their own family.
