Freshman Sports Supporters Seeking Donations

Group has a new name: Friends of Belmont Athletics and a goal: $52,281.

The group that successfully persuaded the Belmont School Committee to accept donations to fund school sports programs has found a partner to allow it to begin fundraising.

According to E-mail from the group leaders, the newly named Friends of Belmont Athletics has announced a partnership with the Belmont Boosters Organization, allowing the group to solicit donations to raise the money necessary to reinstate eight freshman sports teams and the Chenery Middle School Cross Country program for the coming school year.

And now the Belmont Friends know how much money they will need to raise. Last week, Belmont Athletic Director Jim Davis announced that it would take $52, 281 to reinstate the programs ended when the Proposition 2 1/2 override failed last month.
