Nearly 400 Run Home at Father's Day's Brendan's 5K
Women's course record smashed as Belmont dad takes men's title again in town's Father's Day tradition. With nearly 440 photos, if you ran the race, you're likely in this article.
The weather Sunday, June 16, was excellent – sunny and warm but not hot – as it seems to accompany what has become an annual Father's Day tradition in Belmont.
For the 12th time, Belmont hosted the Brendan's Home Run 5K (that's 3.1 miles) Race and Walk where more than 400 walkers and racers ran from Belmont High School's Harris Field through Belmont Center and into the Winn Brook neighborhood before looping back to the start/finish line.
Less then 16 minutes after the starter's gun went off, Belmont's Ryan McCalmon (15:27.7) who runs for the Boston Athletic Association edged Peabody's Dan Vassallo by 11 seconds to claim his second consecution men's title. A quick 46 year old Gregory Picklesimer from Newton finished third overall and was first master runner in 16:07.9.

The 22-year-old beat the previous record of Arlington's Jessica Minty who came home in third this year in 18:18.6. Roa's fellow Somervillian Lindsay Willard finished second in 17:59.2.
In the combined race for parents and children, Lexington's father, Stuart, and son, Benjamin (the 16-year-old finished 7th in 16:57.4) claimed the title.

Belmont's Butte family were the top winners in the kids races that took place as the nearly 400 runners exited the field with Henry (Boys 8 year old and under) and Sophie (Girls and overall winner in the 9 to 12 year old) taking home top honors in their respected races.
And the race would not be complete until 82-year-old Mike Collins, an Air Force vet and member (with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin) of the Apollo 11 crew, finished the race, this year in under 40 minutes.
