BELMONT, MA — A mother and daughter were driving from Belmont to Concord Sunday when they realized they had lost the mother's purse.

Melissa De Witte, in a tweet, wrote that her mother's purse slipped off the back of her car's trunk while they were loading the car.

Once she realized her mother's phone was in her purse, the two tracked the phone and noticed it was moving in a loop De Witte recognized.

According to a tweet, De Witte said, "Low and behold, the driver saw my mother’s bag on the street and picked it up to turn in at the end of his shift."

The bus driver, Djiby Sow, told De Witte he saw the purse while on his route and planned to turn it in at the end of his shift.

“He politely refused to take a reward,” De Witte said. “He was good-humored and kind. It just made our evening. A happy ending to a stressful story.” Boston 25 reported.

“People choose to enter public service because they want to make a difference in their communities, and Djiby Sow is someone who is doing just that," says MBTA General Manager Steve Poftak, "I could not be prouder of Djiby and all of the dedicated MBTA employees who have demonstrated a strong commitment to public service throughout the pandemic.”

Sunday was also Sow's birthday and De Witte wanted to thank him via social media.
