Feb. 8 – At 2:45 p.m., received a report that a person had just jumped off the Pleasant Street Bridge onto Route 2. When officers arrived, they found a woman in her 50s who was actually sitting on the concrete lip of the overpass talking about suicide.
As she was slowly preparing to jump off the lip, Belmont Police Captain J. Peter Hoerr struck up a conversation with the woman. He talked with her and eventually convinced her to back off from the edge. As she was talking to Hoerr, Belmont Police Detective Brendan Young approached her and when the opportunity arose, took hold of her and immediately brought her away from the area. Belmont Police took the woman to Mount Auburn Hospital for observation.
