Police Log: Larceny With A Smile

Incidents handled by the Belmont Police Department.

Just before 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, a Drew Road resident contacted Belmont Police to report a larceny. When officers arrived, the homeowner said that someone unknown to the resident had taken construction supplies that were laying out in front of the house. According to a witness, a blue pickup pulled up to the house and a couple of men got out of the cab and began placing some items into the truck. When the men saw the eyewitness, one of the alleged thieves smiled and "waved at him" in a friendly gesture, convincing the neighbor that the two were suppose to be there. They soon drove off with their illicit gains. Police broadcast a message to be on the look out for the truck. But it appears the last laugh is, at least, partially on the theivies: while they did take spools of copper wire, of all the material there, they stole a pair of old and used water heaters. Total dollar amount of the heist: $300.
