Police Log: Naked Man Near Auto Dealership
Incidents investigated by the Belmont Police.

Little green Honda
Aug. 22 – At 12:28 a.m., police were called to Goden Street for a disturbance. Eyewitnesses said two women in a green Honda were having a heated disagreement, yelling so loud they attracted the attention of residents. But before police arrived, the couple took off.

Aug. 22 – Just before sunrise at 5:08 a.m., a male caller called the police to report a naked man in the area of the auto dealership at Pleasant Street. The caller failed to provide police identification. A subsequent search of the area failed to come up with any naked person.

Aug. 23 – At 11:09 a.m., a Poplar Street resident called the police for a larceny. The woman said she had recently bought a yellow sign saying "Slow Down Children" which she placed in front of her house. Between 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19, two teenage girls took the sign and ran off with it.
Didn't see pedestrian
Aug. 23 – At 2:04 p.m., police were sent to an accident between a car and a pedestrian at the intersection of Walnut and Trapelo Road. The victim said he had just parked his car and was attempting to cross Trapelo when a car turning left from Walnut hit him. The driver said he did not see the victim crossing the street. The Belmont Fire Department took the pedestrian, who suffered minor scrapes, to Mount Auburn Hospital.
Road rage runaway
Aug. 23 – At 5:02 p.m., police units were sent to the intersection of Belmont and Common streets for a reported road rage incident. A caller reported a man yelling at a woman in a white Mustang. Police later interviewed the man who said the woman driver "tried to hit" him with her vehicle. The car and driver reportedly fled down Belmont Street.
DVD mayhem and arrest
Aug. 24 – At 11 p.m., Belmont Police were called to Concord Avenue for a fight in progress where they found a pair of agitated men – yelling and hitting walls and doors – and a man staggering inside the house with blood on the walls and floor coming from wounds to his hands. At first one of the men not hurt attempted to keep police from entering the house by slamming the door in their face while the other tried to push pass the police, only resulting in him being detained. The situation was so explosive the police requested backup from Cambridge and Arlington police. The wounded man said he was cut "playing around" but it was discovered that the mayhem had occurred between the men when one of them attempted to use a DVD player. While the injured man was taken to the hospital, police took one of the men into protective custody and later arrested the injured man once he was cleared medically. James McGaffigan, 36, of 81 Concord Ave., was charged with assault and battery and assault and battery with a deadly weapon, a knife.

Aug. 26 – At 10 a.m., a Beech Street man reported to police that he had met a former high school friend and former classmate. He said he exchanged phone numbers with the person, but now no longer wanted any contact with the woman either by phone or email. He was provided information on harassment prevention.
Backyard track meet
Aug. 27 – At 10:40 a.m., residents from Bow Street reported that a man wearing white painter pants and carrying two large plastic bags was running through several backyards in the area. Police did not find anyone matching that description
