Police Log: Sucker Punch Not In Job Description

Incidents handled by the Belmont Police Department.

Feb. 8 – At  4:38 p.m., Belmont Police received at call for a fight in progress at the intersection of Belmont Street and Jonathan streets. 

When an officer arrived, he was approached by a man who said he was sucker punched with a single blow. Now the story unravels; the man is from Billerica and was picked up in his town by a man – whose nickname is 'Bill' – who wanted to know if the victim wanted to make a day's work at a construction site in Belmont. The not-yet-victim agreed to go along. At some point, there was "an altercation" occurred between the two at the driver's home. During this verbal assault, the driver threw a "haymaker" that connected and sent the now victim onto the ground. After more verbal sparring, the puncher took off. As the victim was giving his statement, a white van came to the scene and another man told the officer he had an entirely different story to tell him. But what the officer at the scene wanted to know the name of the day work contractor. But the man in the van decided to take off.
