Police Log: Turn it down!

Fight Club

Aug. 29 – At 12:05 a.m., police were called for a fight that was about to start at the Chenery Middle School. Several units responded to the Middle School's playground where they found two groups standing around "talking." The police ID'ed the individuals and then told everyone to move on.

Aug. 30 – At  10:17 a.m., a Channing Road woman came to the station to report a fraudulent business transaction. She said she hired a local company last December to build her website for $2,500. But by the next day, the customer was not so sure she wanted to use this company and asked for her money back. While she received reassurances from the company, she soon did not hear from them. Upon further investigation, the firm's two owners returned to their native Japan. It also appears the pair have left their landlord holding the bag for past rent.

Aug. 31 – At 12:43 a.m., a Royal Road resident called police when he discovered a collection of rugs laying on the side of the road near his house.

False alarm

Aug. 31 – At 4:28 p.m., a car alarm went off in front of a Dalton Road house. The owner believed that someone was trying to break into his car. It turned out that it was a malfunctioning alarm.

Contracted to steal

Aug. 31 – At  1:40 p.m., an Essex Road resident told police that she had a contractor at their house. She needed to leave them for a couple of hours. When she arrived back to the house, she noticed the door and screen door were left open, Inside the house, she discovered that earrings and necklaces valued between $6,000 to $7,000 were missing.

"Turn it down!"

Aug. 31 – At 8:29 p.m., a police unit was sent to Payson Park for a noise complaint. Organizers said an older man had gone up to the band playing as part of the Payson Park Music Festival to ask them "to turn the music down." The officers calmed the situation down. But as they were leaving, another resident from a nearby street called for police assistance. The individual, who said he was a patron of the Music Festival, said the noise had been excessive over the years.

Getting the "Lion's" share

Sept. 1 – At 12:38 p.m., a Springfield Street resident believed that a check she gave for condo fees was stolen. She told police she left a check for $135 in a neighbor's mailbox. It was stolen. Later, the check was altered to read $2,350 and cashed by "Lion Royal" somewhere in the Midwest of the US.

Vacuum it up

Sept. 1 – At 4:11 p.m., a Pleasant Street woman and her cleaning woman got into a verbal confrontation that required the police's attention. Apparently, the homeowners requested the woman to use a vacuum while cleaning which prompted the woman to begin yelling. The situation ended when the cleaning woman was paid.

Sleep in the grass

Sept. 2 – At 5:11 p.m., a Stony Brook Road resident called police to say that a man was sleeping in his front lawn. Fire/Rescue was called, as the man was not responding to questions. When the sleeping man did wake up, he became combative. He was sent to a nearby hospital.
