Severe Weather Expected Tonight Into Tomorrow

National Weather Service predict heavy rain for late Tuesday into Wednesday; flooding possible.

The National Weather Service is predicting several lines of severe weather to move through the area, including Belmont, during the late night and into tomorrow morning. The NWS is predicting up to three inches of rain during the duration of the storms.

The service is predicting that low lying areas or those locations that are effected by raising waters in the past should be ready for the possibility of additional flooding. In Belmont, those areas include the homes near Little Pond and along Grove Street.

The storm that came through Belmont Saturday afternoon dumped an estimated inch-and-a-half of rain causing minor flooding through town. 

The Belmont Police Department reported flooded streets on the following locations:

• Maple Street

• Grove and Marion streets

• Harvard Road

• Common Street

• Kilburn Road

• Carleton Circle and Washington Street

• Fairview Avenue and Foster Road.

• Thomas and Waverley streets

According to the Belmont Fire Department, they were sent on calls to homes for flooded basements and in two cases to extract people who found themselves stuck in their cars surrounded by the fast raising waters. Those locations include:

• three homes on Grove Street,

• two residences on Herbert Road, and 

• homes on School Street, Oxford Street and Orchard Road.
