The Heat Finally The Cause of Electrical Outage

It took nearly the entire summer for the extreme hot weather to claim an equipment victim.

The Belmont Municipal Light Department nearly went the entire summer without the extreme heat causing an electrical outage.

That was until the early morning hours of Thursday, Sept. 2.

Residents of a small number of homes in the Pearson Road neighborhood woke up to find clocks not sounding an alarm and microwave panel controls blinking as the area experienced an outage of nearly 45 minutes beginning around 3:17 a.m.

According to Jennifer Santoro, BMLD's Energy Services & Communications Coordinator, the outage in the Pearson area was a result of a transformer fuse failing due to the heat.

Santoro said all homes were back on the grid by 4 a.m.
