UPDATE: Dramatic Video Of Trowbridge Street Fire
Suspected cause likely electrical of blaze that destroyed building at 20-22 Trowbridge St. but official report days away.
Black embers litter icy Trowbridge Street where less that eight hours before the Belmont Fire Department battled a multi-alarm fire that engulfed the upper floors of a two-family house.
This afternoon, Feb. 9, s Assistant Fire Chief Angus Davison said that an official report on the early morning fire that destroyed 20-22 Trowbridge St. is still days away but initial speculation is that the blaze was possibly electrical in nature.
Dramatic video of the fire shows how the flames engulfed the two-story structure near the intersection of Concord Avenue as Belmont and Cambridge Fire companies arrived at the scene.

The first alarm was struck at around 3:30 a.m., according to Davison who spoke to Belmont Patch at the scene this morning. Arriving units quickly pulled a second alarm due to the extent of the blaze.
The call brought all BFD units to the scene and initiated a mutual aid call where fire personnel from Waltham, Watertown, Cambridge and Arlington were sent to man Belmont's two firehouses, according to Davison.

The fire closed inbound traffic on Concord Avenue from Cambridge to Belmont Center for most of the early morning hours.
Belmont Fire units were forced to fight the fire from the outside from a ladder truck and manned hoses after the roof collapsed. It took several hours for fire personnel to finally knock out all the "hot spots" in the structure. By noon, the building was being secured.
Davison said the building is a total loss.
This is the fourth fire Trowbridge Street has witnessed since 1988 including a fire on Nov. 24, 2004 that took the lives of two residents.
