Vehicle Drives Onto Commuter Rail Tracks, Hit by MBTA Train
No injures in Tuesday night mishap. A question of the GPS?
A vehicle driven by a woman somehow drove onto the commuter rail tracks at the Brighton Street crossing and was struck by a MBTA commuter rail train at approximately 9:24 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, according to Belmont Police.
While the facts were sketchy as of 1 a.m. as the accident was still under investigation, Belmont Police Sgt. David Sullivan, the night shift supervisor told Belmont Patch that no one in the vehicle was injured in the collision.
"All I can say now is that a woman drove down the tracks and was hit. But she got out before it happened.," said Sgt. Sullivan. It was unknown where the vehicle's driver was from or the make of the vehicle. The night's rain that soaked the region had not yet come when the accident happened.

While Sullivan could not confirm that there were no others in the vehicle at the time, there is some evidence through social media reports that there was one or more passengers – possibly children – in the vehicle during the incident.
There was also an unconfirmed report that the woman's GPS indicated that the tracks were a public road.

After the accident, commuter rail service was suspended on the Fitchburg line and buses were used to ferry passengers to stations.
After the incident, fire crews and police were able to access the scene through a gate at 315 Channing Rd.
Hours after the incident, the MBTA brought a track repair engine and placed it on the tracks near the Belmont Center stop while the gate at Brighton was operating periodically
