What To Do With That Oil And Hazardous Waste

Highway Dept. can help dispose of extra oil and other nasty material before winter.

Fall is in the air and soon residents will be putting away equipment for the winter and will also be doing some fall cleaning.

That is the time when waste oil and gasoline for a car, lawn mower and trimmer is discovered. Most residents know it's illegal to dispose of those hazardous liquids down the storm drain is illegal and are not allowed in the weekly garbage removal. 

In addition, simple household items such as nail polish remover and bleach are hazardous waste that must be handled property when getting rid of them.

In an attempt to help homeowners, the Belmont Highway Department has facilities and advice to assist residents in disposing this dangerous material.

Residential waste oil (not mixed with anything else) may be brought to the Highway Yard, C Street, weekdays 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Limit: 5 gallon per resident.

Directions to Highway Yard: From Trapelo Road at Waverley Square, take second left onto Waverley Street.  Take the first left onto Grant Avenue.  Go a short distance onto C Street.  Go to "Dispatch Office" and sign in to dispose of waste oil.

Chlorine bleach

Rug cleaners

Acids

Antifreeze

Auto batteries

Moth balls

Oven cleaner

Gasoline

Pesticides/Herbicides

Nail polish remover
