5 Things To Know, Feb. 22: National Grid Alerts Beverly Customers to Scam
National Grid scam, a heroic act by an off-duty police officer, and more Beverly news tidbits.

Here are five things to start your day in Beverly:
1. National Grid is warning its customers of a new, nationwide utility bill scam. In the past several days National Grid electric customers have received telephone calls from individuals claiming to work for National Grid. These scammers demand payment, through a pre-paid card, on past due balances for electric accounts and threaten customers that their service will immediately be shut-off for non-payment. Beverly Police spokesman Dave Costa said these types of scams have not yet been reported in the city.
2. Go Beverly PD! "Great job tonight by Lt. Hegarty who performed the heimlich maneuver on a choking elderly woman while he was at dinner with his family. Even off duty we are on the job and ready to respond," Beverly Police wrote on their Facebook page.
