Beverly To Bypass Preliminary Election In September

A contested race for mayor will be among the races on the ballot for the Nov. 4 general election.

BEVERLY, MA — Beverly will not hold a preliminary election in September with the only contested races involving two or few candidates for each position — including mayor, where City Councilor Brendan Sweeney is challenging incumbent Michael Cahill.

City Clerk Lisa Kent said on Thursday that the municipal election will be on one date this year on Nov. 4.

Each of the Ward Councilor races and Ward School Committee races have only one candidate on the ballot.

There will be six candidates for Councilor At-Large seats, including Council President Julie Flowers. Other candidates on the ballot will be Keith Sonia, John Mullady, Kenann McKenzie-Franzen, Kyle Retallack, and Euplio Marciano.
