Beverly Hockey Coach Resigns After On-Ice Altercation: Reports

Beverly hockey coach Greg Fonzi stepped down after he was involved in an altercation with a Danvers assistant coach following Monday's game.

BEVERLY, MA — Beverly High boys hockey coach Greg Fonzi resigned from his post on Tuesday following an on-ice altercation in a postgame handshake line on Monday, according to multiple reports.

The Boston Globe's Jim Clark reported on Tuesday that Beverly Athletic Director Daniel Keefe confirmed the resignation.

Fonzi reportedly got into a verbal altercation with a Danvers assistant coach following the game at the Essex Sports Center in Middleton before it escalated and the Danvers assistant coach was shoved to the ice.

Danvers won the game in overtime.

Keefe told the Globe that the team will play under the guidance of assistant coaches until an appointment of a new coach can be made.
