Beverly Middle School On Track For 2018

Construction on the long awaited Beverly Middle School is moving along.

BEVERLY, MA – If construction continues on schedule, Beverly middle school students will have a school designed specifically for them in fall 2018.

Students grades 5 through 8 will have a 21st century building, built on the site of the old Memorial Middle School, with a floor for each grade and a section for each "team," or subsection of the grades.

"It's moving along very well," said Beverly Mayor Michael Cahill. He said construction crews were working right through the winter on the phases that could be completed. Passersby on Cabot and Balch streets can see the building rise over time: The construction company is currently working on the structure's floors. Cahill, who has a background in teaching, said students will have the benefit of a school with a layout to match its programming.

Cahill said the grades may be grouped – grades 5 and 6 and grades 7 and 8 – for certain activities, like student government. Including grade 5 in the new building will open up room at Beverly's elementary schools.
